French writer, director, and actress Charlene Bourgeois-Tacquet has made a name for herself as a rising voice exploring complex female stories. Her first directorial work, Anais in lovefollows a penniless 30-year-old woman who has an affair with Daniel, who then decides he doesn’t want to continue that way, leading Anaïs to develop an infatuation with Daniel’s partner, Emilie. Now, Bourgeois-Tackett is back with Women’s life (Women’s life(Starring Leah Drucker)Last summer, Closes), which will have its world premiere as part of the Cannes Film Festival competition lineup on Wednesday evening.
Produced by David Theon (Anatomy of a fallWritten and directed by Bourgeois-Taquet, the film follows 55-year-old surgeon Gabriel, whose carefully constructed life and career are rocked by an encounter with a young novelist whom he is observing as part of her work on a book she is writing. Mélanie Thierry and Charles Berling also star in the film, with Be for Films handling international sales.
“Gabrielle, 55, dedicates herself to her work, body and soul,” the film’s synopsis reads. Women’s life. “As a surgeon and head of a hospital department, she is constantly on the move, exhausted under the weight of responsibility. There is little time left for her own life: a loving husband and a mother who depends on her care. And yet, this is the life she wanted, the life she chose.
