Party spokesman Jairam Ramesh said that Sonia Gandhi underwent a routine medical check-up at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram district of Haryana and has now returned home.

The hospital is awaiting comment on the visit.

Sonia Gandhi was last admitted to hospital on the night of March 24, around 10.20pm. She was suffering from fever and spent seven days in hospital. Hospitalization prompted Rahul Gandhi to cancel a scheduled visit to Kerala.

Systemic infections occur when pathogens such as bacteria enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the body, rather than remaining locally.

The veteran leader was also admitted last year in June due to stomach issues. She remained under observation in the hospital’s gastroenterology department.

Gandhi was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh earlier the same month – on June 7 last year.
