A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia has sentenced a Bangladeshi national to three years in prison for traveling on a fake Indian passport and illegally registering land, a police official said on Tuesday.
Special Judge Balia Ramkripal on Monday found Abdul Amin guilty and imposed a $1,000 fine on him $10,000 on him,” Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh said.

According to prosecution sources, a case was registered on March 14, 2023, at Kotwal police station in Ballia against Amin, who hails from the Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, based on a written complaint from Inspector Bharat Bhushan Tiwari of the ATS unit Varanasi.
The case has been registered under various sections of the IPC and under the Foreigners Act.
It is alleged that Amin, with the help of individuals from Ballia, illegally obtained Indian documents, based on which land was illegally registered at Purushottampur located in Pandua area of Hooghly district of West Bengal.

He also had a passport obtained using fraudulent means, and traveled twice to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia each.
After investigation, the police filed an indictment against Amin in court.
