Women Lead the Poll Battle: Bihar Historic Voter Turnout
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has confirmed that Bihar witnessed its highest voter turnout since 1951, touching 66.91% overall. What truly stands out is the record participation of women voters, who cast their ballots in larger numbers than men in both phases of polling.
In the first phase of voting on November 6, 69.04% of women exercised their franchise, compared to 61.56% of men.
By the second and final phase on November 11, women’s turnout rose further to 74.03%, while male turnout stood at 64.1%.
This brings the overall gender turnout ratio to 71.6% for women and 62.8% for men — a stunning 9-point gap in favour of women.
‘Women Have Shown the Way,’ Says Election Commission
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar praised the enthusiasm of women voters, calling it a “historic expression of democratic faith.” Indiatoday
“These transparent and peaceful elections in Bihar have shown the whole of India a lesson,” he said. “Women voters have expressed their complete faith in the Election Commission.”
This emotional acknowledgment struck a chord across the state. Social media was flooded with messages celebrating Bihar’s women, many calling them the “real changemakers” of this election.
The excitement has also fueled discussions about how this unprecedented participation could impact the Bihar Assembly results, expected soon after the Bihar election counting date on November 14.
Bihar Records Highest Turnout in 70 Years
In both phases combined, Bihar registered a record turnout of 66.9%, which is 9.6 percentage points higher than the 2020 Assembly elections.
Ten districts — including Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Katihar, Kishanganj, and Purnea — recorded turnouts above 70%. Notably, Katihar (78.84%), Kishanganj (78.15%), and Purnea (76.14%) led the charts.
While most of these districts are NDA strongholds, the Seemanchal region, known for its opposition Mahagathbandhan base, also saw heavy participation — setting up a nail-biting finish for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 results.
Bihar Counting Date and Result Schedule
The Bihar election counting date is scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2025.
The Bihar result date will be announced the same day as counting concludes.
In total, around 7.45 crore voters were eligible across both phases — 3.75 crore in phase one and 3.70 crore in phase two. The fate of over 1,300 candidates will be decided as counting begins.
Political analysts believe that the strong female turnout could become the deciding factor for many constituencies, especially in rural Bihar.
Bihar Exit Poll Results Hint at NDA Lead
As the voting concluded on November 11, nine major exit polls projected a decisive victory for the NDA. The Mahagathbandhan is predicted to fall behind, while Jan Suraaj, led by Prashant Kishor, is expected to underperform.
In the second phase, 68.52% voter turnout was recorded across 122 Assembly segments, continuing the trend of high participation seen in phase one (64.69%).
The buzz now surrounds how these numbers will translate on the Bihar result date, and whether the women’s vote surge will realign traditional power equations.
How Women Changed Bihar’s Election Story
The gender gap reversal is not new to Bihar, but the 2025 turnout has rewritten history.
In 2015, 60.48% of women voted compared to 53.32% of men — an early sign of change.
But in 2000, it was the opposite: 70.71% men voted versus 53.28% women.
This year’s turnout shows how women voters in Bihar have emerged as a force shaping policy debates, development agendas, and leadership choices.
Analysts suggest this could influence future campaigns focused on education, safety, and welfare schemes for women.
