Banaskantha: Anar Patel, daughter of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, said on Monday that Patel girls are increasingly marrying outside the community because many young men are not “capable enough” and went on to point to issues such as drinking alcohol and lack of work.

Anar Patel, president of the Shri Khudaldham Trust (SKT) which represents the Lova Patidar community, also questioned why the community continues to counsel girls in the first place on the issue.
A video clip of her statements, as she addressed a gathering in the village of Gad here, spread on social media.
“(Patel) girls get married in other communities because many boys in the community are not capable enough. If our sons drink alcohol, roam outside, and do not work, then our daughters will get married outside the community. Why don’t we believe in this theory and always advise our daughters,” she said.
Speaking at the event, where she unveiled a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Anar Patel also asked the gathering to identify those responsible for creating divisions in society.
Hailing the Shree Khodaldham Trust as the largest organization representing the Leuva Patidar community, she said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel taught everyone about the organization.
However, she decried the overwhelming influence of social media and TV channels and said Sardar Patel would have fought to unite the 562 princely states if he were alive today.
Anar Patel said, “This is the age of social media and television channels, where information from all over the world is available instantly. If Sardar Patel were alive today, he would not have been able to unite the 562 (princely) states, because now there is a leader in every family.”
