Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh Education, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh said on Monday that the proposed integrated township in Amaravati on the lines of Singapore’s Punggol district is set to become a model urban development project in the country.

Lokesh participated in a meeting with representatives of the Joint Implementation Steering Committee of the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry during his visit to Singapore today.
“The proposed integrated township in Amaravati, inspired by the Punggol model in Singapore, is expected to become a benchmark urban development project in Andhra Pradesh as well as the country,” Lokesh said in an official press release.
According to him, the state government aims to develop the Amaravati economic region in the best possible way with the support of Singapore, and Amaravati now has national legal jurisdiction as the state capital, which will boost investors’ confidence in the region.
The Minister urged the Joint Implementation Working Committee to accelerate the procedures for the integrated town project while securing support from the World Bank for its implementation.
Lokesh noted that Andhra Pradesh has already issued notifications inviting applications for proposals from interested partners for the development of the Amaravati Economic Region.
He asked the Singaporean side to explore opportunities to facilitate trade access between Andhra Pradesh and countries of Southeast Asia and East Asia via Singapore.
The minister said Andhra Pradesh aims to emerge as a global MICE destination on the lines of Singapore and will study the Suntec City model to create similar infrastructure in the state.
Lokesh further said that Andhra Pradesh will continue to benefit from Singapore’s expertise in enhancing real-time governance and its proven support for companies wishing to invest in the state.
The press release stated that consultations on the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between Andhra Pradesh and Singapore are conducted monthly through working groups.
He noted that six ministers from Andhra Pradesh recently attended training courses in Singapore under the Singapore-Andhra Pradesh Excellence in Governance Programme, while 37 government teachers also completed training programs there.
The Andhra Pradesh government signed a memorandum of understanding with Singapore in November last year covering development of integrated townships, Amaravati Economic Zone and digital transformation initiatives, including real-time governance.
