Kiara Advani recently spoke about the difficulties she faced during the initial years of her career, especially after the release of her debut film Fugly. The actress also shared how she finally got a break in Lust Stories, a project that proved to be a turning point in her journey.During a conversation on Raj Shamani Podcast, Kiara spoke about the lows in her career and how those lows shaped her as an actor and an individual.
Kiara Advani says failure has become her biggest teacher
Speaking about her journey, Chiara said that every setback brings a lesson. “I really feel like there’s something I’ve learned from every experience that has shaped me into who I am today. It’s the bad moments that have been my biggest teachers. Even now, people think MS Dhoni: The Untold Story or Kabir Singh was my first film, because those were commercial hits. Fugly was my first film, not many people watched it, and now many people may Google it,” she said. The actress also revealed that after the film failed commercially, job opportunities became limited. “After this film, there was a big lull because the film did not start well. However, many critics praised my performance. But nothing translated into work. So, it was the same waiting game of going to auditions, some make it and some don’t,” she said.Chiara admitted that actors who do not achieve commercial success early in their careers often have a more difficult road.
She added: “When you start out and don’t have commercial success, the opportunities available to you are much less. The process takes longer. So far, I feel like this is the best thing that has happened to me.”

“Even then.” Donnie “It was the same story”
Despite gaining recognition with MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kiara said the struggle did not end overnight. According to the actor, it was only after Kabir Singh’s release that things really changed.“Even after Dhoni, it was the same story. Kabir Singh released in 2019 and after that there was no looking back.
Those five years saw a lot of auditions, waiting, rejections, and some movies I was making. I knew work would bring work, and it did. “This is the age when you are most motivated to give your best,” she said. Kiara also remembered her starring role in the movie Machine, which was directed by the director duo Abbas Mustan. While the film was widely criticized online, she remains grateful for the experience.“I was trolled hard on social media. I am very grateful for that wonderful experience on set, which helped me learn a lot. I had composed a song in this film, ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’, and that’s when Manish Malhotra noticed me. He didn’t know me at all and went and told Karan Johar because he thought, ‘Iss ladki mein namak hai’. That’s when I was offered lust stories,” she recalls. On the work front, Kiara recently returned to work after welcoming her first child with husband Sidharth Malhotra. She will next be seen in Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups alongside Yash.
