New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Sunday urged young women to actively participate in its student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

Hosabale said Yashwantrao Kelkar, the ideological and organizational theorist of the ABVP, strongly supports women’s participation, full-time participation of female students, and constructive work in student organisations.
He noted that Kelkar played a major role in building the ideology and organizational structure of the student body.
The RSS leader was addressing the special recitation program ‘Priye Kelkar Ji’ organized by the Delhi ABVP unit at Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium here to commemorate Kelkar’s birth centenary.
Hosabale said Kelkar developed the “philosophy of the student movement” and explained what should be the ideological basis and thought process of such an organisation.
“In general, Vidyarthi Parishad works through three-dimensional constructive work, representational work and agitational work,” Hosabale said while.
One of the key architects of the ABVP, Kelkar is credited with shaping the ideological framework of the organization and emphasizing constructive social action alongside student activism.
The RSS leader said Kelkar never imposed his views on others.
“He never believed in telling people to do something just because he said so. Instead, he presented his ideas as a suggestion and in a convincing manner, built consensus and imbibed the spirit of togetherness throughout his life,” Hosabale said.
Hosabale said Kelkar strongly encouraged women’s participation and constructive work in student organisations. “In the broader context of national reconstruction, these ideas were aimed at building an exemplary student movement in the field of education,” he said.
The RSS leader said Kelkar worked collectively with several senior figures associated with the ABVP, including Dattaji Didolkar, Bal Apte and Madan Das Devi, and played a “special pioneering and founding role” among them.
Recalling an event organized on Kelkar’s 60th birthday in Mumbai, Hosabale quoted former RSS chief Balasaheb Deoras as saying, “Yashwantrao Kelkar is a true descendant of Dr. Hedgewar,” referring to RSS founder and first sarsangchalak Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.
“This statement says it all,” Hosabale said, adding that the comment reflects Kelkar’s depth of character and commitment to organizational values.
Hosabale said Kelkar emphasized discipline, complete planning and punctuality in organizational work. He added: “He used to say six o’clock means exactly six o’clock, not a minute early or late.”
Hosabale praised the recitation programme, saying it gave the workers an opportunity to understand Kelkar’s personality and organizational thinking.
“Those who have not had the opportunity to sit in front of Professor Yashwantrao Kelkar during a training session can imagine through this presentation what such a session would be like,” he said.
Hosabale said the one-hour presentation covered many topics typically discussed during three-day organizational training camps, and noted that many of the workers in attendance may have felt as if Kelkar himself was running a session.
“The presentation showed the breadth and depth of Yashwantrao ji’s thoughts,” he said, adding that he not only spoke about the principles but also lived by them.
