However, the ball is in the court of Governor RV Arlikar, with whom Vijay has already held three meetings in three days. While it is not yet known whether Vijay will head out again to meet Arlikar at Lok Bhavan, the next few hours will be crucial. Arlikar is heading to Kerala, where the Congress-led United Democratic Front won the assembly elections and preparations are now underway to form the government.

But why is Arlikar heading to Kerala?

Arlikar has been serving as the Governor of Kerala since 2025 and was given the additional charge of Tamil Nadu in March 2026. So, Arlikar currently holds two charges, both of which are important states at the moment.

It becomes more difficult because Vijay now has the support of 120 MLAs and can comfortably demand to form the government. But Arlikar is scheduled to fly to Kerala in less than two hours.

With Vijay getting majority support, he is likely to meet the governor at Lok Bhavan today and security has been tightened. Will he be able to meet the Governor before he heads to Kerala or will he give a nod to Vijay after he settles the government formation matters after his return? This remains to be seen.

What is the latest in Tamil Nadu government formation?

On Friday, TVK received support from CPI and CPM. There were talks of VCK and IUML extending support as well, but nothing was confirmed and Vijay’s party was left once again seeking a majority.

However, on Saturday afternoon, the VCK and IUML with two MLAs each, extended support to Vijay’s TVK, taking his tally to 120.
