TVK, which won 108 seats, sought support from several smaller camps to gain 118 seats in the 234-seat assembly. The CPI, CPI(M), which has two seats each, and the Congress, with five seats extended support to the party.

A press conference by VCK president Thol Thirumavavalavan was planned for 11.30am on Saturday and party office officials later announced that Thirumavavalavan would make an official announcement by 4pm on their decision.

Later in the day, in a media interaction, TVK General Secretary (Campaign Management), Aadhav Arjuna said, “Victory, victory. Thank you to all alliance partners including Congress, Left parties, CPI(Maoist) and my beloved Guru Thirumavalavan (of VCK). Democracy will be protected. Our leader (C Joseph Vijay) will take charge as Prime Minister with the support of the people of Tamil Nadu.”

Arjuna showed the letter he had received from Thirumavalavan.

The letter addressed to Governor Rajendra Arlikar was signed by legislator and VCK Tindivanam general secretary Vani Arasu.

“Under the instructions of our party President Thule Thirumavalavan, I, Vani Arasu, as Leader of the Legislative Party of VCK, Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly on behalf of our two Members of the Legislative Assembly, hereby convey our unconditional support to TVK under the leadership of its President and Legislative Party Leader C Joseph Vijay, for the purpose of forming the government in the State of Tamil Nadu.”

“This support extends in accordance with the results of the Assembly elections held for the state of Tamil Nadu on April 23, and is extended in the interest of stable and democratic governance for the people of Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Arjuna had earlier served TVK as its Deputy General Secretary. In January 2025, he joined TVK in their party office in Chennai.

IUML national president Khidr Mohiuddin formally presented the letter to TVK chief coordinator and 10-time MLA KA Sengottaiyan and to general secretary (politics and publicity) KG Arunraj on Saturday.

With the support of VCK and IUML, the total number of lawmakers supporting TVK reaches 120 making it the majority party to form the government.
