The Night of Too Many Stars — a benefit show for the nonprofit Next for Autism that was part of this year’s Netflix lineup was a joke collection — lived up to its name on Thursday night, bringing out an impressive series of A-listers for an evening filled with music and comedy.

Jon Stewart served as host for the night, which got off to a flying start when Kevin Nealon drew a picture of a woman from the crowd and Jimmy Kimmel (on bass clarinet), Conan O’Brien (on guitar) and Stewart (on drums) came out on stage with… Love is on the spectrum Star Abby Lotus.

The show alternated between stand-up comedy groups — from comics including John Mulaney, Bill Burr, Leanne Morgan, Ron Funches, Nikki Glaser, Matt Rife, and Ally Wong — and bidding on some very exclusive items, all in the name of supporting people with autism and their families. The feature has been a long-time staple of New York’s events calendar, and it’s held in Los Angeles this year for the first time, with more stars than usual.

Perhaps the most famous charitable item came when the house Star Noah Wyle joined Stewart on stage to auction off the live physical performed at the Hollywood Bowl. Two women bid $16,000 each for the opportunity, as Stewart joked: “Who would have thought the winning bids would be two women? That’s unbelievable!”

Wyle, wearing Dr. Robbie’s signature jacket and gloves, proceeded to check their reflexes, mental awareness and pupils (“Your pupils dilate a little but that’s understandable, I just spent $16,000 on an actor-administered physical exam”) before giving both women a clean bill of health, he joked. “Keep doing whatever you’re doing, you both look good, you both look great,” he said. “But remember, I’m the guy who told George Clooney not to leave erAnd he will never be heard from again.

Sarah Silverman also joined the group on stage, speaking about Wyle for being “very good to the Jews” through the character of Dr. Robbie. Other big-ticket items up for auction included the chance to star in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons (which was submitted in two separate offers of $75,000 and $70,000) and a scheduled visit to the house. Kimmel later returned to the stage to auction off the chance to join Jason Bateman at a Dodgers game with the star’s season tickets — where it was soon revealed that Kimmel had been selling the item without Bateman’s knowledge.

“This is an opportunity that is rarely offered to anyone outside of Will Arnett,” Kimmel joked. “I’m sure [Bateman] He will go along with it. “If he didn’t, God help him when he told the Internet what he had done.” The experiment sold for $38,000, with Stewart shocked by the high bidding, exclaiming: “What the hell is this? I think we all love Jason Bateman as much as the next guy but…”

Steve Carell, Johnny Knoxville, Tiffany Haddish, Bob Odenkirk and more Love is on the spectrum Cast members also took part in various parts throughout the evening, and writer Robert Smigel, who took part in Next for Autism after his son was diagnosed, took some time to appreciate Stewart for his accomplishment tonight.

There were plenty of political jokes all night, and Robert F. Kennedy is a frequent target. “This is the best benefit I’ve done since the Robert F. Kennedy Riverkeepers benefit 10 years ago,” Mulaney joked, as he was responsible for keeping the Hudson River clean. “That’s how good he is at jobs,” Mulaney chided, while also noting that he knew Kennedy because he was “married to that woman from Curb your enthusiasm He cheats on her like a dog, but he loves being around funny people. During his set, Burr declared, “Ted Turner is dead, one down! Rupert Murdoch is next,” and said he was ready to “end his career” by talking about Iran.

“I’m so glad we finally bombed Iran. Every day I was sitting in my house nervous about what they are going to do to us, and we have to stop them!” Burr joked. “How long do we think we can keep doing this? Just taking countries, turning them upside down, taking lunch money out of their pockets?”

The show ended thanks to Adam Sandler, who looked noticeably thinner when he explained that it was for a movie and that he would soon “be fat again.” He enthused the crowd, saying: “What a night! You guys did such a good job, I can’t believe how much money you spent there… When I’m at this stuff and the auctions start, I see people looking at me and I’m like, ‘Damn.'” He went on to perform a number of comedy songs, ending with a song about the history of comedy that had many in attendance screaming, along with his late friends Norm MacDonald and Chris Farley.
