US town mayor fires entire police department for upsetting his wife, says he won't block paychecks

The mayor of a small town in the US state of Georgia fired the entire police department for annoying his wife.

The mayor of a small town in Georgia fired his entire police department for apparently harassing his wife after cops wrote some offensive comments on social media about the wife, who worked on city council.

However, Mayor Ron Shinnick says he was reshuffling the team like changing the team’s coach.“It’s a guy thing. You know, sometimes, in college football programs, you have to change the coach, and some people like that, some people don’t. And that’s just the way things happen sometimes, you know?” The mayor said.Cohutta is a small city in Georgia with a population of about 1,000 people.WDEF reported that police department officers had an issue with Pam Shinnick, the mayor’s wife, as she was continuing to serve on the City Council even after her employment was terminated due to the toxicity she created. After these allegations came to light, Mayor Ron Shinnick and City Attorney Brian Rayburn held a press conference where all parties agreed to a resolution through open dialogue and good faith mediation. While the decision is now known, a notice was posted on the door of the Cohutta Police Department on Wednesday that read: “The Police Department has been disbanded, and all employees have been terminated.”Deputies are expected to take over law enforcement services in the city.

“They’ll get a salary. We’re not that way, and I appreciate their service, okay? It’s time for a change,” Mayor Shinnick said after the entire police department was fired. The former officers said they would not give up any of the department’s equipment until proper procedures were followed.“We have to return all the equipment, and as of now, there’s no one here who is a city law officer to sign off that they are receiving this equipment. It’s a felony if a gun or something like that goes missing. We’re not going to turn that over to anyone. It will remain in our possession until such time as someone can come pick it up,” one of them said.
