Sharmila Tagore had earlier spoken about her cancer diagnosis. The conversation happened when the ‘Amar Prem’ actress appeared on ‘Koffee With Karan’ with Saif Ali Khan. At that point, Karan Johar revealed that Sharmila Tagore was the original choice for the role of ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ for the role of Shabana Azmi but she could not do it due to cancer. Now, in a recent interview, Soha Ali Khan spoke about this phase when her mother was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer.During a special Mother’s Day episode of Soha’s podcast ‘All About Her’, which featured Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Soha spoke about how the experience changed her relationship with her mother and encouraged her family to communicate more openly.Speaking about the moment Sharmila Tagore shared her diagnosis, Soha said: “My mother and I have never been the type to say ‘I love you’ to each other over the phone.
In fact, when she told me she had been diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer, she said it was because we don’t express ourselves enough, and that we should communicate more as a family.” She also revealed that her mother had found a book that emphasized the importance of emotional expression within families.Soha added: “I read a book that talked about the importance of expressing feelings. We were never very clear, you know, like some families do.”
Reflecting on generational differences in expression of affection, the actor said, “People of this generation also didn’t really know how to express their love. Maybe people back then were not so expressive.”Soha Ali Khan has been a part of the Hindi film industry for almost two decades and is known for films like Rang De Basanti, Tum Mile, Khoya Khoya Chand and Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge.
