Nawazuddin Siddiqui has never been one to follow the masses, and his latest selection proves that. The popular actor has signed on for ‘Lead Actor Nahin Hoon’, an indie film by director Aditya Kripalani about a depressed banker, and he has a few things to say about why he did it and what is wrong with Bollywood today.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui talks about the current situation of Indian film industry
Speaking to Mid-Day, Nawazuddin Siddiqui didn’t hesitate when asked about the state of the Indian film industry. “Earlier, more films were being made, so people were taking more risks. Now, fewer films are being made, and because of that, actors are also suffering. What has happened to our industry is pathetic. It has become all about the spectacle. It is no longer about the story. There is no authenticity in the industry,” he said.
One thing becomes successful, and then everyone starts making the same thing.”Despite the frustration, he remains optimistic about the future, saying: “Every era changes because of one film or one piece of art. Sometimes weak phases come, then strong films change the era again. And that cycle will continue.”

In the same conversation, when Nawazuddin was asked about inspiration, he pointed to Kerala as a model worth emulating.
“In Kerala, smart films are made on small budgets and are done by big stars because those films satisfy the actor in them,” he pointed out.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui made it clear that this film was never about box office returns. He said, “There are a lot of calculations now, how much will the film earn, how many people will it reach. But this film is not for financial benefit; it is for the benefit of the actor in me. I did not get into films because I wanted a fan club.”He added, “This is my personal journey. To satisfy the audience, you have to keep presenting one type of character. I can’t do that. If you love me, you will have to see different characters.”
