Nepali Congress-led opposition lawmakers on Thursday pressured Balendra Shah’s government to “go beyond diplomatic notes” and open high-level talks with India and China to “reclaim” Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani – Indian territories that Kathmandu claims as its own, according to Vishant Agarwala. The demand was raised in the House International Relations and Tourism Committee at Singha Durbar amid fresh concern over India and China using the Lipulekh trade route and the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra without Nepal’s consent. Nepali Member of Parliament Sandeep Rana said Nepal should not postpone direct “table talks” with the two neighbours. “Lipulekh is our land and it is being used for the Kailash-Mansarovar trek,” Rana said. . Nepal Communist Party (UML) MP Bhumika Limbu Subba described India’s response to Lipulekh as “irresponsible”. Maoist Center MP Pramesh Kumar Hamal urged the government to take other political forces into confidence. The Nepalese Foreign Ministry had sent diplomatic notes to India and China after New Delhi announced the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. India said its position was “steadfast and clear.”
