Colbert graces the cover Hollywood Reporter New York issue published on Wednesday. He said in the chat that those hosts were among the only people he wanted to talk to after he found out the show was cancelled.

“When I got laid off, the only other people I talked to for days were these people. I came into my office [after making the announcement on-air] I opened my phone and we had a quick exchange. My favorite was Kimmel, who just said, “It’s a hell of an Emmy campaign.” I said: “Busted.” And then I think they probably took a bet on who was next. The other message I got was from Jon Stewart, like, “What?” I’m like, “Get back to you, buddy.” Then I turned off my phone and gave it to my wife, Evie, and said, “Please don’t let me have this for a few days.”

Colbert also appeared in a video where he answered questions from other current and former late night hosts, including Jay Leno.

CBS was cancelled Late Show In an amazing and surprising move last summer.
