Riddhima Kapoor Sahni is about to make history as the oldest Kapoor woman to make her acting debut, having made her debut in front of the cameras at the age of 45 in ‘Daadi Ki Shaadi’, alongside her mother Neetu Kapoor and Kapil Sharma. But the path to her debut did not begin with an audition or a novel, but rather with two women laughing out loud at the same idea.
In a candid conversation ahead of the film’s May 8 release, Neetu Kapoor, Kapil Sharma and director Ashish R.
Mohan revealed the charming and completely unplanned story of how this mother and daughter came together.
Neetu Kapoor’s first reaction
Speaking to SCREEN, when the casting call for Riddhima came, Neetu Kapoor’s response was immediate and emphatic.“When I got a call asking if Riddhima would do this film, I laughed out loud and said ‘Riddhima? films? No no”.
Then I put the phone down and thought how can I make the decision for her? So I called Riddhima and asked her if she would do the film. She laughed harder at me and then said, “Why not?” Neto recalled.
Kapil Sharma talks about the decision to cast organic actors
Kapil Sharma revealed that Riddhima’s name came up organically from the casting process and the only real uncertainty for the team was whether she would say yes.“When the casting of the role of the daughter was discussed, the team said that there was one character left, who should play Neetu ji’s daughter? Everyone thought of Riddhima at the same time.
But the doubt in everyone’s mind was the same, will Riddhima agree? When she came, her first opportunity on the first day was very normal. Addressing Riddhima directly, Kapil said: “It is in your blood.”
How did Neetu Singh join Dadi Ki Shaadi?
Signing Neetu Kapoor was unplanned and coincidental in equal measure. Kapil Sharma revealed that Neto’s opening position was clear.“When director Ashish went to Neetu ma’am to provide the narration, she told him – I will not do a film for money, I don’t need a job, I am in a family place now,” he said.Director Ashish R. Mohan takes responsibility from there. “I asked Neetu ji how long she wanted the narration to be. I told her it could be wrapped up in half an hour or extended to three hours. We started the narration, and it ended up being two hours and forty minutes. She listened to the whole thing. After the narration, she said, ‘I still don’t know whether I will do the film or not, but this film should definitely be made.'” We got into the car, and within 15 to 20 minutes, we got a call that Neetu ji was doing the film.

For Riddhima, the experience carries emotional weight beyond the debut itself.“It feels very surreal and emotional. There is a feeling that everything is coming full circle. I know that my father is always with me, blessing me in anything and everything I choose to do. This thought gives me so much strength and comfort,” she told SCREEN.
