Dwayne Johnson is opening up about his decision to wear a skirt as part of his look at the 2026 Met Gala on Monday.
the Moana The actor made his debut at fashion’s biggest night, wearing an all-black Thom Browne ensemble featuring a mohair coat, white jacket and pleated skirt over trousers. He walked the carpet alongside his wife, Lauren Hashian, who was wearing a white halter-neck dress designed by the designer.
When asked by reporters about his look, Johnson said it was partly inspired by his Polynesian culture, where “more masculine men wear skirts.”
“I feel good!” He replied. “Firstly, [Thom Browne’s team] I sent illustrations again and again [asked]”Hey, would DJ be cool with this pleated skirt?” So I said to myself, “Look, in our culture, the Polynesian culture, we rock the lalafa, we rock the skirts.” The most masculine men, not because I’m one of them, but the most masculine men wear lavalavas and skirts.

Elsewhere on the carpet, Jumanji The actor was asked Hollywood Reporter Whether it is art or the artist, this year’s theme is “The Art of Fashion”.
He said he was talking with his friend and fellow actor Colman Domingo, who was also present at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, about “the beauty of art, and sometimes it’s an expression of art, and I can feel that. Am I the art or the artist? I think I’m both, and maybe this is a great place to be.”
The dress code for the 2026 Met Gala was “Fashion is Art,” while this year’s exhibition, “The Art of Fashion,” examined “the centrality of the dressed body across time and culture, juxtaposing clothing and artwork from throughout the museum’s extensive collection to create pairings that highlight the indivisible relationship between clothing and the body,” according to official descriptions.
Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour served as this year’s co-chairs, while Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos were honorary chairs.
