Tarun Khanna, who has played Lord Shiva in several TV shows like Karmaphal Daata Shani, RadhaKrishn, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki, Devi Adi Parashakti, Paramavatar Shri Krishna and Santoshi Maa, has weighed in on the ongoing conversation about Ranbir Kapoor’s casting in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, supporting the actor and his approach to the role.Tarun described Ranbir as one of his favourites, and revealed that the actor attended his stage show as part of his preparations.“Ranbir Kapoor is my favorite, and my wife’s favorite too. He came to watch our show at NCPA with his wife Alia Bhatt, his mother Neetu Kapoor, and his friend Ayan Mukherjee – just for his preparation. Imagine how seriously he takes his craft,” he told Galata India.
“Appearance doesn’t matter, it’s the emotion that matters.”
Reacting to the controversy surrounding Ranbir’s look as Lord Ram, Khanna rejected such discussions.“This stuff is so exaggerated — how it looks and all that — it doesn’t make sense,” he said. “At the end of the day, there’s only one thing that connects with people: real, raw emotion.”He added: “A film succeeds when there is an emotional connection. If that does not happen, you can spend millions of dollars, but the film will not succeed.”
Invites early negativity
Tarun also addressed the negative comments surrounding the Ramayana, especially the comparisons with Adipurush.“People are already saying that too much money has been spent and that the film won’t work.
Why spread negativity? Why do we say it will be another Adipurush? He said.He pointed out that such stories affect not only the stars, but also the larger crew. “It’s not just Ranbir Kapoor, there are a lot of people whose livelihoods are linked to the film.”
“Ranbir is among the best of this generation.”
Praising the actor further, Tarun said, “He is one of the best actors of our generation in the last 20 years. Such a big star, such a wonderful actor – I have never heard any controversy about him.”He criticized attempts to drop the actor even before the film was released. “The film has not been released yet, and people are trying to withdraw it.”

“The visual effects don’t make the movie.”
In discussions about the film’s scale and visual effects, Tarun emphasized that technology alone cannot guarantee success.“No film works because of the visual effects. It works because of the emotion. If the emotion is right, the film will work. If not, even if you shoot on the moon, it won’t work,” he said.
Ranbir, Alia attended his show
Tarun also noted that Ranbir, along with Alia Bhatt and Neetu Kapoor, attended his stage show at NCPA in Mumbai. He added: “We spoke before the show. But they left about five minutes before the final scene, otherwise the audience would have surrounded them. Their team got them out quickly.”
