He was referring to the Assembly elections held on April 23 in which the DMK and its allies bagged 74 seats, while the Dravidian party bagged 59 constituencies.

Stalin said in a statement that “the difference in votes between us and them does not exceed 3.52 percent,” in a clear reference to the victory of the Tamilaga Vetri Kahzagam Party led by Vijay in the elections, the results of which were announced on Monday.

Claiming that the DMK alliance had secured 1.54 crore votes, Stalin said: “I consider each and every one of your votes as an invaluable token of trust.”

Pointing out that the DMK had come to power several times, he said, “There is no victory that we have not seen and no defeat that we have not faced.”

“Whether in victory or defeat, those who view them as equals and continue their journey towards their ideals are the comrades of the party,” he said, adding, “You are the lifeblood and roots of the movement.”

“The harvest of 1.54 crore votes is the result of your commitment,” he said.

“What return can I give for your hard work? With the feeling of being the key worker, we will continue our journey,” the DMK chief added.

“If we are the ruling party, we will formulate schemes for the people. If we are the opposition party, we will fight for the demands of the people. In this regard, now as a strong opposition party, we will continue to work for the people,” Stalin said.

Assuring that the DMK will continue the journey of taking forward the century-old policies of the great Dravidian movement, protecting race, language and nation, the DMK leader said, “In our journey, I will leave no one behind. We will prevail again.”
