Kid Cudi has dropped MIA as the opening act for his ongoing tour, Hip-Hop Act announced Monday, days after the singer made controversial comments about conservatism and illegal immigration during her performance over the weekend.

MIA has drawn criticism following comments she made during a tour stop at Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, where, according to fans in attendance who posted about her on Reddit, she spoke about how she “never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter.” According to a video taken by a fan, she also talked about how she “can’t do anything illegal,” referring to her song, and then said “even though some of you might be in the audience.”

“MIA is no longer on this tour,” Cody wrote in an Instagram Story on Monday.

“I had my management send notice to her team before we started the tour that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, because I already knew what time was right,” Cody also wrote, “and I made sure things were understood. After the last two shows, I was inundated with messages from fans who were upset by her screaming. This, to me, is very disappointing and I will not have anyone on my tour making offensive remarks that upset my fan base. Thank you for understanding.”

MIA’s comments represent the latest controversy in her already controversial career. Returning to the pandemic, she adopted anti-vaccine rhetoric during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, saying she would “choose” death over the vaccine. She also endorsed Donald Trump for president again in 2024, writing on X that “Trump will lead America through our most challenging four years.”

She acknowledged the controversy surrounding

“I wrote ‘ILLYGAL’ on my MAYA LP from 2010,” she wrote in a post in all caps. “I started this intro to the song with a statement saying I’m illegal, and I said my team didn’t get visas yet. Then I played a song where the lyrics say ‘FU&% THE LAW,’ which I still believe, if the law is unfair F@%&IT.”
