Hyderabad, The Telangana government on Monday decided to “hand over” the investigation report into alleged irregularities in power purchase agreements during the erstwhile BRS regime in the southern state to the CBI.

Former Supreme Court judge Madan P Lokur, who headed the investigation, submitted the 114-page report to the Telangana government in October 2024, Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting.
He said that the State Attorney General expressed his opinion in the report.
The minister said that the investigation report proved that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi government in Telangana was involved in irregularities, misused public money in purchasing power from neighboring countries, and that corruption occurred in the construction of power plants.
“After examining the Attorney General, the Council of Ministers decided on Monday to hand over the investigation report to the Central Bank of Iraq,” he said.
The decision to hand over the report to the federal agency was taken because the power purchase agreements were between the states and because of the involvement of some central government organizations in the construction of the Bhadradri and Yadadadri power plants.
Reddy said the government would also chalk out a course of action on its reference to the CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project during the BRS which was pending with the central agency for a long time.
The minister said that the government will take a decision on “scientifically increasing land registration fees” by the end of this month. Economist Arvind Subramanian made some suggestions on the issue.
He said the Cabinet has also decided to bring IT institutes and polytechnic colleges under the supervision of the Young India Skills University.
Reddy said the government will set up solar power plants at power substations where government land is available on a trial basis.
He informed that the government would also undertake the procurement of rice and maize during the current second crop season.
