What does the guidance say?
“All departmental secretaries and heads of offices are requested to ensure that no important paper or any file is removed/destroyed or taken out of the offices. Unauthorized copying/scanning is not permitted,” the document states.
“Furthermore, all important files/papers/communications must be properly accounted for. The Head of Departments and Departmental Secretaries must personally ensure that this is followed in letter and spirit. Personal responsibility for any case of deviation must be fixed,” he added.
A copy of the letter has been sent to Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary/Secretary of All Departments, Director General and IGP of Police, West Bengal, All Divisional Commissioners, Commander-in-Chief of Police, Kolkata, and all District Magistrates.
This comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) crossed the 200-mark in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. As of 9 pm, the BJP had won 167 seats and was leading in 41 more, taking its tally to 208, while the TMC had won 59 seats.
The Bharatiya Janata Party appears to be preparing to form the government in the state and maintain its lead during the vote counting process.
The elections, held in two phases on April 23 and 29, saw a direct contest between the incumbent TMC led by Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Bharatiya Janata Party, which aims to form its first government in West Bengal.
Apart from the main contenders, other parties including the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) were also in the fray.
