“The counting of votes has begun in the West Bengal Assembly elections, which were held in two phases on April 23 and 29. This comes in the wake of a heated electoral battle between the incumbent Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While the TMC is aiming for a historic fourth term in the state, the BJP is looking to make history by winning Bengal for the first time. Rivals, BJP and TMC Other political parties are also competing in the contest. West Bengal Assembly elections, including the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Without any surprises, polling in Bengal witnessed several incidents of violence, particularly between workers from rival parties, as well as reports of tampering with electronic voting machines (EVMs), leading to re-polling at 15 booths in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, in Diamond Harbor and Majrat Paschim, on 2 May, just two days before the Election Commission of India took the vote The decision to re-poll follows reports of tampering in the electronic voting system during the second phase of polling held on Thursday, April 29. The Election Commission of India on Saturday ordered re-polling in all 285 polling stations in Valta constituency in West Bengal. Following serious electoral crimes and subversion of the democratic process during polling in the second and final phase on 29 April, re-polling will take place on 21 May between 7am and 6 pm at all polling booths, including auxiliary polling stations. Voters will be counted in Valta on 24 May. Voter turnout was recorded at 87.6 percent in Magrat Pachem and 86.11 percent in Diamond Harbor as of 5 pm after the re-polling. She won the seat in 2021 by a margin of about 58,000 votes. She has now claimed that after a special intensive review, the number of voters has reached about 51,000 were removed from the constituency.
