A drive-by shooting in Brixton left four people injured, one of them in critical condition
Four people were injured by gunshots fired from a moving car in Brixton, south London, shortly after midnight on Saturday, prompting an extensive police investigation and renewed concerns about the safety of the local community.
The event occurred at around 01:15 GMT on Coldharbour Lane, and officers from the Metropolitan Police arrived immediately following emergency reports. As reported by the BBC and The Guardian, along with press releases from the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service, the investigation is ongoing as the search for the suspects responsible for the assault is on.The 25-year-old is currently fighting for his life in hospital.
Meanwhile, three other men, aged 21, 47 and 70, were admitted for medical treatment after injuries that doctors classified as non-life-threatening. All four injured people were treated on site by paramedics and were subsequently transported to the main trauma center and another nearby hospital, respectively.Security personnel secured the immediate area surrounding the Southwyk House property as well as conducting extensive searches throughout Saturday and Sunday morning.
A cordon has been put in place along certain parts of Coldharbour Lane, as the investigation continues. Investigators are examining surveillance video footage and collecting witness statements in order to piece together a timeline of the events that occurred.Witnesses clearly described going from celebratory mood to absolute panic in just seconds. According to Moh Jun, 45 years old, an employee working in a supermarket near the crime scene, he heard gunshots coming from the direction of the gathering that was taking place near his workplace.
A number of people who were running for their lives approached him and forced him to barricade the door.Another victim, Robert, 40, said that although he was inside at the time, he thought there was a big barbecue in the neighborhood attracting a lot of people.Speaking about the investigation, Chief Detective Inspector Alam Banjo referred to the incident as an example of random violence and added that many people from the local community shared the concern. The investigator said that the team will work hard to find the suspects and understand their motives for committing the crime.
