An old clip of Vivek Ramaswamy explaining how he, as a Hindu, worships Jesus Christ, is going viral.
As Vivek Ramaswamy faces heavy criticism over an old video in which he was explaining his faith versus Christianity to a voter in Iowa, the American Hindu community has staunchly defended Vivek’s religion and questioned the unofficial religion test he must take every day before the May 5 primary. In the old video, Ramaswamy explained to a voter that in his faith, Hinduism, Jesus Christ is the Son of God. “I know this is different from saying he is the Son of God, but this is my view of Jesus Christ,” he added, explaining that Hindus worshiping in churches is compatible with their religion. “One true God in many forms,” Ramaswamy added. The voter told him that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. One way is through his faith, Ramaswamy said.As the video began to spread again, he was accused of “insulting” Jesus by comparing him to figures in the Hindu religion. One conservative commentator wrote: “Here’s India’s Vivek Ramaswamy calling Jesus a ‘god’ and not the son of God to the voter. It’s true to their face, and they will still vote for him.”
As a Hindu-American like Vivek, she too has encountered “street corner proselytization,” said Suhag Shukla, executive director of the Hindu Foundation of America.
“Telling gubernatorial candidate, @VivekGRamaswamy, that his concept of God is wrong and leading him to hell – when he didn’t ask – is clear conceited religious arrogance – and is superiority,” she said. “But to discuss whether the soteriological claims in this conversation have a theological basis is to miss the point entirely.
““Every Hindu American like me has encountered this kind of street corner evangelism.
“Vivek is that unique politician who cares enough to meet people where they are and dialogue about how he sees divinity when he could easily say ‘no thanks’ and move on,” Shukla wrote.
Indian American Defense Council co-founder Siddharth condemned Ramaswamy’s trolling and said he is running for governor, not head pastor.“If your faith collapses because a Hindu says Jesus is the way to God and not the only way, the problem is your insecurity and bigotry,” Siddharth wrote on
