Riteish Deshmukh’s ambitious project, ‘Raja Shivaji’, is currently running theaters and receiving love from the audience. As the title suggests, the film is based on the life of the Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The period drama registered a historic opening for its Marathi version in cinemas.

The Riteish Deshmukh starrer grossed Rs 11.35 crore on its first day in theatres. On the second day, the film grossed Rs 10.55 crore. Now, according to a Sacnilk report, the historical drama is currently running across 1,785 shows and has collected Rs 1.75 crore As of now. The numbers are expected to rise as the day progresses. This has pushed India’s overall collections to Rs 28.13 crorewhile India’s total net profits amounted to Rs 23.65 crore.

Riteish Deshmukh’s passion project is facing competition from Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla and Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi starrer Ek Din. Not only this, ‘Raja Shivaji’ shares his performances with Hollywood releases like ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ and ‘Michael’.
