Narayanpur, Emotional scenes were witnessed on Sunday as wreaths were laid at the mortal remains of three of the four police personnel killed in an explosion at a Maoist powder godown in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district.

There was no consolation for the grieving family members, while security personnel tried to console them.
Amid chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’, the public representatives, along with senior police officials and administrative officials, paid tribute to the deceased individuals.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held to honor Inspector Sukram Vatti and constables Krishna Kumra and Sanjay Gadpally, who were killed in the blast on Saturday, at police lines in Narayanpur’s neighboring Kanker district.
The mortal remains of constable Parmanand Kumra, who succumbed to his injuries during treatment in Raipur, will be taken to Kanker, where a separate wreath-laying ceremony will be held, police said.
Bastar District Inspector General of Police, Sundaraj Pattilingam, after being honored, told reporters that the four police personnel had made the ultimate sacrifices while protecting the area.
“I commend them,” he added.
The four individuals were killed while trying to dispose of a gunpowder dump that the Maoists had earlier hidden in a forest near Adnar village under Chotipithiya police station limits in Kanker district, according to police.
This was the first Naxal-related blast in the state since it was declared free of armed Maoists on March 31, and also the first case this year in which security personnel involved in anti-Naxal operations lost their lives.
Reserve District Guard Officer Fati, who was leading the team, hails from Bijapur district. Constable Krishna Kumra of the district force and constables Gadpally and Parmanand Kumra of Bastar militants were residents of different villages in Kanker.
