'Raja Shivaji' and 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' see increased demand; Midnight shows are added in Mumbai

In an unusual pre-release move, some Mumbai theaters have begun scheduling post-midnight screenings, some until 1am, of two very different but equally anticipated films – Riteish Deshmukh’s historical epic ‘Raja Shivaji’ and the much-awaited Hollywood sequel ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’.

The development indicates exceptional pre-order on both films ahead of their release.

While night screenings are usually added after a film has established itself at the box office, the situation here is different. Both films are generating strong pre-release interest, with exhibitors facing capacity restrictions well before opening day. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, some PVR theaters have shown The Devil Wears Prada 2 after 1 am, while some Moviemax theaters have added post-midnight showings of Raja Shivaji.“There is crazy demand for these two films. However, since there are so many releases, these films are facing capacity issues. Hence, the exhibitors have decided to hold screenings after 12:00 AM as there is demand,” the report said.
