Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar, known for his sharp wit and literary brilliance, recently shared an interactive moment with Aamir Khan while they were attending an event recently. The conversation took place at an event hosted by actor Boman Irani’s screenwriting initiative, Spiral Bound. The evening brought together several famous faces, including Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Ananya Panday, and Ishaan Khatter.Aamir Khan, who was also seen there, asked Javed Akhtar a question about how he has stayed relevant so far with a career spanning five decades. From the audience, Aamir addressed Javed on stage, saying, “I always enjoy listening to you, so I keep watching your YouTube videos and even call you after that. I have a question for you: I have worked in the industry for a long time. I have worked with people of different generations, from those your age when you started, to younger collaborators as you grew up, and now, in your 80s, with people in their 20s.
How can you stay relevant across generations?Sharing the stage with Irani, Javed answered in his trademark and humorous style before taking the question seriously. “First of all, don’t say ‘80s.’ “Because even 87 is in the 80s, and I’m only 80,” he joked. The ‘s’ I added has had a very negative impact on my age.” This clever remark sparked laughter in the room, with Amer himself smiling and replying: “My apologies.”On the work front, Aamir was last seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, and he recently revealed that a sequel to 3 Idiots is currently being written.
