Karan Johar is rumored to make his debut at the 2026 Met Gala alongside an Indian powerhouse in May. This year’s theme is ‘The Art of Fashion’ with a ‘Fashion is Art’ dress code. The unique display will feature approximately 200 clothing pieces alongside 200 art pieces to explore fashion as an embodied art form.

According to a Variety India report, Karan Johar will join regular attendees Natasha Poonawalla and celebrity fashion designer Manish Malhotra at the event, scheduled to be held on May 4, 2026, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan.The director is expected to wear a custom outfit designed by Malhotra for the star-studded event. However, the official announcement is still awaited.The report also stated, “It will be interesting to see KJo at the Met Gala because he is very fashionable and never hesitates to experiment with his clothing choices.”Gohar is no stranger to talking about the biggest night in fashion. Known for his bold fashion choices, he has long participated in the Met Gala from afar, and has publicly praised Indian celebrities who have walked in the Met Gala’s famous steps.Johar publicly praised the appearances of Shah Rukh Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani in previous editions of the ceremony. The 2025 edition marked a historic moment for Indian representation, as Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan made his Met Gala debut wearing an all-black Sabyasachi design.

India’s presence at the 2026 ceremony looks set to be significant. Apart from Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra and Isha Ambani are also expected to attend along with Natasha Poonawalla.
