Ryan Reynolds reveals why he's not rushing into 'Deadpool 4' or new MCU projects: 'I have some things written that I like'

After the smash hit of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds is taking a measured stance regarding upcoming projects. He considered new possibilities but emphasized the importance of rarity and excitement in maintaining a character’s appeal, effectively suspending immediate follow-through.

Ryan Reynolds says he’s not rushing to return for more Deadpool content, even after the huge success of 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor, who helped turn the Merc with a Mouth into one of the most popular superhero characters on screen, said he wrote ideas he liked but didn’t want to move too quickly.

His comments come as fans continue to wonder if Deadpool will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which is less than eight months away from release.

Deadpool’s MCU future remains unclear

Collider reported the update after Steve Weintraub spoke with Reynolds while discussing Season 5 of the FX docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham,” which arrives May 14. During the interview, Weintraub asked Reynolds if he could share anything new about Deadpool’s future.Reynolds confirmed he was writing, but made clear there was no immediate comeback. “I have some things written that I like. I don’t know. We’ll find out when the time is right. I’m in no rush right now to do anything,” he told Collider. The actor also explained why he doesn’t want fans to be inundated with new Deadpool projects. “Deadpool works best with both rarity and surprise, so returning to the movie at full capacity now is probably something I wouldn’t do,” Reynolds said.

Ryan Reynolds praises the Marvel team
