'Dhurandhar 2' blew 500 liters of fuel for Ranveer Singh and Arjun Rampal's climax blasts: 'There was no CG at all'

More than 40 days after its release, Dhurandhar 2 continues to impress with its events. SFX head Vishal Tyagi revealed that the climax used real explosions with 500 liters of fuel and no CGI. Ranveer Singh’s performance amidst danger. The film broke records and the franchise has now crossed Rs 3,000 crore worldwide.

More than 40 days after ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ hit the screens on March 19, 2026, its stunning sequences and explosive sequences continue to amaze audiences. Highlighting one of the most talked-about moments in the film, VFX supervisor Vishal Tyagi recently revealed how the tanker explosion was executed using purely practical effects, with no animation.

The high-risk sequence reportedly involved 500 liters of petrol and several kilograms of explosives, with Ranveer Singh remaining calm and firing his shot amidst the chaos.

Durandar 2The climax had no animation, only real explosions

Speaking to Hindi Rush, Vishal Tyagi said: “Usually what happens is people say: ‘Give us a small explosion, and we’ll make it look like a huge explosion.’” But in Dhurandhar, Aditya Dhar didn’t want to use a computer – especially for the explosions. The instructions were clear, and we were given complete creative freedom.

The tanker explosion at the climax was the hardest thing to create. Our biggest safety concern was regarding this particular scene. Imagine burning 500 liters of gasoline for real. There was no CG at all. Every little detail in the scene is real. We had concerns that while blowing up the tankers, the flames should not reach Ranveer Singh, who was walking close to them.

We did all the work and specifically told Ranveer Singh where he could start walking.

Although the scene featured both Arjun Rampal and Ranveer Singh, Vishal revealed that Ranveer was in greater danger. He shared, “Arjun Rampal was in the shot and then we removed him before the explosion shot was taken – obviously. I was very worried for Ranveer, but he wasn’t as concerned. Mostly because he had seen our work and knew how meticulously I briefed everyone about the explosions. After the shot, he would say only one thing – ‘Vad diya ringtone!'” We set up Arjun Reddy, and he could go back to his truck, but everyone stayed back to watch the explosion.

The climax of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ came with massive production pressure

Speaking about the pressure of executing the sequence, Vishal said, “I had a lot of production pressure. A real train base and containers were used for the explosion. It was very difficult, but we were confident. Production asked me to use 250 litres, but I was adamant that at least 500 liters of fuel was needed. To create this explosion, I also had to add 25 kg of explosives in each of these tanks to get the right effect.”

Main suna sabki, ki apne man ki.”
