Laura Dern joins the cast of The White Lotus Season 4; She replaces Helena Bonham Carter

The White Lotus will open for actress Laura Dern, following Helena Bonham Carter’s surprise exit last week.According to the latest reports, while the actress has taken Bonham Carter’s place in the upcoming series, she will not be taking on the exact role. Variety magazine confirmed that Dern is playing a new character developed by series creator Mike White.The nine-time Emmy nominee, who won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series in 2017 for Big Little Lies, will take on her next big role in the hit series.

The reason for Helena Bonham Carter’s exit

The change in cast came days after filming began on the French Riviera. “With the start of filming on the fourth season of white lotus, “It has become clear that the character Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not walk on set once,” an HBO spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline.

Dern now joins a cast that includes Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonty Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Vela, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereshkiewicz. Additional cast includes Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustafsson, Charlie Hall, Jerad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnitzer, and Laura Smit.

According to the official description for Season 4, “Season 4 will follow a new group of guests and staff of the White Lotus Hotel over the course of a week, during the Cannes Film Festival. Featured hotels include the Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes. In addition to Cannes, the season will be filmed in Saint-Tropez, Monaco and Paris, although the story will remain set on the Côte d’Azur.”
