Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent a sporting morning in Gangtok in Sikkim on Tuesday where he participated in a football match with children there, sharing snippets of it on social media.

In the video shared by the Prime Minister, he appeared wearing a blue tracksuit with the Indian flag on it, and participating in a football session with children. He was also seen warming up, scoring a goal and giving them high fives.

Before the match, Modi greeted the children and asked them, “What are you going to teach me today,” and even joked, “You’re not going to beat me, are you?”

After the session, the Prime Minister spoke to his colleagues and told them: “In matches, training is not enough. There must be matches, and this is where the real passion appears.”

“In the coming days, we have to make the game popular. You know that India is preparing for the Olympics; by then, you will have become experienced players,” he said, seeking to motivate the children.

Modi then signed their shirts and posed for photos with them. “A morning of football in Gangtok! We learned, played, celebrated, and above all else, enjoyed the match…” he captioned the video.

Prime Minister Modi unveils development projects in Sikkim

During his visit to Sikkim, Prime Minister Modi launched development projects worth more than that $4,000 on Tuesday and attended the closing ceremony of the country’s 50th anniversary celebrations at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, these development projects include a wide range of sectors such as infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, energy, urban development, environment, tourism and agriculture, with the aim of accelerating comprehensive and comprehensive development in the state.

During his speech at the closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th anniversary celebrations, Modi also criticized the Congress, saying that what the BJP government was doing could have been done by Congress governments also earlier, but they had “hindered the development of Sikkim”.

“After the BJP government came to power at the Centre, development in Sikkim has gained momentum again. For the first time, railways will reach Sikkim,” he said.

He also said that his government was not only committed to the “move east” policy but was determined to “move quickly” in the north-eastern states.
