However, the Trinamool Congress and the Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of trying to tilt votes in their favor by “deploying agents” to intimidate voters.

TMC and Akhilesh target BJP while posting

“Yogi Adityanath’s encounter specialist Ajay Pal Sharma has just been parachuted in by the Election Commission as Superintendent of Police for South 24 Parganas. This is the same man whose badge of honor is counting bodies from ‘encounters’ and whose real specialty is turning a police uniform into a personal ATM and instrument of personal vendetta,” a statement issued by the TMC on X said.

The statement issued by the ruling party also indicates that Pal has been booked on charges of criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and tampering with crucial evidence.

Moving on to X, the SP leader also questioned Sharma’s deployment, highlighting the IPS officer’s “dark record” and “thok-do attitude”.

“In due course, there will be a thorough investigation into the criminal activities of these ‘agents’ who are out to implement the BJP’s agenda, and strict punitive action will be taken,” Yadav added.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra also condemned the deployment. Sharing a video on X, Sharma is heard telling people that any violation will be met with strict action.

Marwa wrote in response to the video: “Hirogiri thoda samhal ki kiji“.

The TMC MP also shared several videos of Sharma with dancers on the social media platform.

“He has just read out the riots to the family members of Jahangir Khan, one of Bhaibu’s henchmen,” the opposition party wrote on X, referring to the presence of around 14 West Bengal police at the TMC candidate’s house.

The BJP further wrote: “No one can prevent this election from being the freest and fairest in 50 years, and anyone who dares to act too smartly will learn a lesson.”
