Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced the national capital’s heatwave action plan for 2026 amid rising temperatures in the city.

The Delhi Heatwave Action Plan is a series of measures aimed at tackling the heatwave, including providing ORS solutions in schools and ensuring uninterrupted supply of power and water.
Rekha Gupta added that the Delhi government is fully prepared to face the heat wave this season and arrangements are in place so that people do not face any problems.
What does the Delhi heat wave action plan for 2026 include?
- Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed the Education Ministry to arrange ORS solutions across schools in Delhi. “Rehydration solution will be given to all the children before leaving school so that the heat does not affect them as they return home,” she said after the review meeting.
- The labor department in the national capital has been instructed to ensure that all outdoor workers remain off work between 1 pm and 4 pm.
- The workers will receive water, hats and gamcha.
- Dedicated five-bed “cold rooms” are scheduled to be set up in more than 30 hospitals in the city.
- The Chief Minister also directed the transport department to carry drinking water inside a cooler box on all DTC buses. High-pressure misting systems will also be installed at bus stations.
- Rekha Gupta said that directions have been issued to ensure “uninterrupted supply of power and water” in the city.
Heat wave conditions in delhi
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heatwave-like conditions in Delhi on Monday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to reach around 44 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.
The hot weather continued in the national capital on Monday, with the maximum settling at 42.1 degrees Celsius. the The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said similar conditions will prevail throughout the day, as a ‘yellow alert’ has been activated for a heatwave in the first half.
Temperatures are expected to range between 43°C and 45°C on Monday. but, There is a gradual shift on the horizon as the weather becomes more active.
The changing conditions will start bringing relief from Tuesday, the IMD noted. With cloudy skies and the return of rainfall, the maximum temperature is likely to drop to 40-42 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and further drop to 39-41 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
“Clouds are expected to persist on Thursday as well,” an IMD official said, adding that temperatures may drop further, with the maximum reaching “nearly 37 degrees Celsius”.
The Meteorological Department also expected thundershowers to hit the capital on April 28 and 29.
