As Kerala moves towards the final count of the 2026 Assembly elections, attention is on Paravoor, where Leader of the Opposition V D Sathisean is vying for a key seat.

Sathisean is seeking to consolidate his position in central Kerala, while the Left Democratic Front has fielded E T Tyson (Tyson Master), the current MLA from Kaippamangalam.

Sathisan is the main face of the Congress-led United Democratic Front in the state. He has represented Paravoor since 2001 and won the seat for five consecutive terms.

  • V.D. Sathisan was born on May 31, 1964 in Nettur, Ernakulam. He received his LLB from Kerala Law Academy Law School and LLM from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. He later practiced law in the Kerala High Court for about a decade.
  • He was the President of Mahatma Gandhi University Union and Secretary of the National Union of Students.
  • He made his electoral debut in 1996 from Paravur and lost, but was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 2001 while still practicing law.
  • He went on to win the Paravur seat consecutively in 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021. He was President of the Congress in the Twelfth Assembly. During his career, he was known for actively participating in Assembly debates, focusing on governance, public issues, and constituency development.
  • In 2021, he was appointed Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly by the Congress Working Committee, and remains a key leader of the United Democratic Front.
