Sathisean is seeking to consolidate his position in central Kerala, while the Left Democratic Front has fielded E T Tyson (Tyson Master), the current MLA from Kaippamangalam.
Sathisan is the main face of the Congress-led United Democratic Front in the state. He has represented Paravoor since 2001 and won the seat for five consecutive terms.

- V.D. Sathisan was born on May 31, 1964 in Nettur, Ernakulam. He received his LLB from Kerala Law Academy Law School and LLM from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. He later practiced law in the Kerala High Court for about a decade.
- He was the President of Mahatma Gandhi University Union and Secretary of the National Union of Students.
