Orange heatwave alert in Delhi, with hot weather conditions continuing for 3 days

The Indian Meteorological Department expected, on Saturday, the possibility of a heat wave over northwest and central India during the next three days, and that weather conditions will improve slightly after that.

According to a press release published on Saturday, the IMD said that heat wave to severe heat wave prevailed in isolated places over Himachal Pradesh. Heatwave conditions in a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.

A heatwave is also likely to occur at isolated places over Jammu Kashmir, Punjab, eastern Uttar Pradesh and northern Rajasthan.

The IMD also urged people to drink plenty of water, avoid direct sunlight from 12 noon to 4 p.m., use hats or umbrellas as cover, and not leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

Orange alert in Delhi

The IMD has issued an orange alert in Delhi for Sunday and a yellow alert for Monday. Several parts, including North Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi and Central Delhi, are witnessing heatwave conditions.

In the weather bulletin, the IMD said that Sunday is the third consecutive day of heatwave over Delhi. She added that these conditions are likely to continue until tomorrow.

Minimum temperatures are expected to remain in the range of 25-27 degrees Celsius, and maximum temperatures are likely to range between 43-45 degrees Celsius.

On April 27, the IMD forecast heatwave conditions in isolated places. Light rain with thunderstorms is also possible in some areas in the afternoon.

Temperature exceeds 40 degrees in UP

Apart from Delhi, temperatures in other northern, central and eastern parts of the country also crossed the 40-degree mark. In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, temperatures reached 42.5 degrees Celsius, 3.4 degrees above normal for this season, on Saturday.

Yellow alert has been issued in some districts of Rajasthan, including Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur and other districts for today.

Orange alert has been sounded in some districts of Haryana, including Gurgaon, Faridabad, Palwal, Mewat, Rewari and Ambala.

The heatwave conditions are due to dry northwesterly winds and strong solar heating, which are typical contributors to early season heatwaves in northwest India.
