Indian-origin couple bags $5 million after selling lottery-won luxury home in Perth: 'I came to Australia...'

The winners are of Indian origin Sweety and Sanju

An Indian-origin family in Australia has turned a charity lottery prize into a windfall of more than $5 million after selling a luxury beachfront home they won last year.Sanju and Sweety, who live in the Perth suburb of Success with their three children, had initially won the MSWA lottery prize in May along with $100,000 cash.

The total prize money at the time was $4.25 million.Instead of moving into the property, the couple chose to sell it. Marmion’s beachfront home sold last month for $4.899 million, adding nearly $649,000 to their original earnings and pushing their total winnings past $5 million, Australia Today reported. The couple said the win came as a complete surprise. Sanju is a mechanical engineer who moved to Australia in 2019 and has been regularly buying lottery tickets for a few years, mainly to support a charitable cause.“I came to Australia in 2019. Since 2020, I have been buying these tickets…as a way to give back to the community in a small way,” he said.At first, they couldn’t believe they had actually won. Sweetie works as a nurse educator and only accepted the news after checking the results herself online. The couple initially thought the call telling them they had won might have been a joke. The property itself was one of the notable features of the lottery.

Located in Marmion, this is a four-bedroom, four-bathroom beachfront home with views extending towards Rottnest Island and Hillarys. The two-storey house has an elevator, large windows, high ceilings and premium interiors.Outside, the home features a wraparound pool and ocean-facing entertainment deck, offering clear sunset views. The prize alone was already large, but the decision to sell the house significantly increased the family’s overall gains.
