An Indian-origin man named Krishan Patel faced vicious trolling after he posted a photo of his girlfriend voting “yes” in a redistricting election in Virginia. The result of the referendum was in favor of the Democrats, but the court has now ruled that the referendum was invalid.The picture sparked a section of social media users who wondered how Patel could vote in the elections. One wrote: “You are an Indian foreigner who should not be here and definitely not vote.”Patel replied that he was born in the United States and that not his parents but his grandparents were immigrants. “I am an American citizen born in the United States of America, born and raised in Orange County, California. My grandparents came to our great nation as immigrants, worked hard for years, and attained American citizenship.
Citizens. “My skin may not be white, but I am American.”The war of words continued as Patel took on the trolls. “I was born in Orange County, California,” he wrote. “I am an American, like Ronald Reagan. My loyalty lies entirely with the United States.” He replied to another hater: “Do you want to see my passport? My real ID? Those were rhetorical questions – I bet you’re one of those idiots who thinks President Obama was somehow born in Kenya and not Hawaii.”
“I am an atheist from a Hindu family and was born in Orange County, California,” Patel said after a social media user guessed he was Muslim.One comment read: “Your birthright citizenship will disappear. You will be deported to India. You are an enemy of the free white people of America. Your girlfriend is a traitor to our people.”“You might say it’s racism, but it’s just being real Americans. What makes it okay for you (or your family) to immigrate here, not assimilate, and then arrogantly disenfranchise Americans whose families have lived here for hundreds of years?
