Voting for by-elections on three seats in Maharashtra and Gujarat began on Thursday morning. In Maharashtra, by-elections are held in Baramati and Rahuri, and in Gujarat, by-elections are held in Umrith constituency.

Voting began at seven in the morning on Thursday and is expected to end at six in the evening.
The results will be announced on the day May 4, 2026 along with the results of the Assembly elections held in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

Parameter: In Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, who is contesting from Baramati, is riding a wave of sympathy and has a higher chance of winning after the death of her husband and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar earlier this year.
There are 23 candidates, including Sunetra Pawar, in the fray. Speaking to reporters outside the polling station, Pawar, who had come to cast her vote, told reporters that the people of Baramati are voting in this election to show their love for the late Ajit Pawar, ANI reported.
“The people of Baramati have been standing in support of the Pawar family for the past 60 years. These elections are being held in Dada’s absence, and all the people of Baramati have decided to cast their votes for Dada in his honour…”
Meanwhile, NCP leader Sharad Pawar will not cast his vote in the Baramati Assembly by-election due to health-related issues, ANI news agency Sunetra Pawar reported.
Rohari: In Maharashtra, BJP candidate Akshay Kardel faces NCP candidate Govind Mukate and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi candidate Santosh Chaleke in Maharashtra.
The seat fell vacant after the death of BJP MLA Shivaji Kardile in October last year.
Amrith: In Gujarat’s Umrith state, six candidates are in the running, with a direct contest between Harshad Parmar of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Brijorajinh Chouhan of the Congress.
As of 9 am, voter turnout in Baramati, Rahuri and Umrith in Maharashtra was 8.01 per cent, 6.39 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.
