Telangana Jagruti and former MLC chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Tuesday took a dig at her father and Bharat Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhar Rao for leniency on controversial issues like delimitation of constituencies and the women reservation bill, brought by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Kavitha wondered why the BRS chief did not make any comments against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or the NDA government while addressing a rally in Jagtial on Monday evening.

“Despite the BRS being portrayed as a national party, the party leadership has not made any critical comments against the BJP or the Central government. Women are not given due respect within the BRS, as is evident from the party’s silence on the Women Reservation Bill,” she said.

Accusing the BRS of failing to do any self-examination on why people rejected her in the recent Assembly elections in Telangana, Kavitha said the BRS leadership will not change “even after a thousand years”.

Without mentioning her father’s name, she accused the party’s leadership of belittling voters by blaming the people for voting against the party in the elections. “Instead of trying to right its wrongs, the BRS leadership says people are repenting for their decision to vote against the party in the last election,” she said.

Kavitha also questioned 75-year-old former Congress minister T Jeevan Reddy joining the BRS movement and projecting him as a young personality. “What message does this send to young leaders waiting for their opportunities in Telangana?” I asked.

I found fault with the former chief minister for inviting anti-Telangana forces into the BRS under the guise of ‘political reunification’. Such actions would only prove that the party had not changed its arrogant stance, she said, urging intellectuals and academics to critically examine the political approach of the BRS movement.

Kavitha also criticized KCR for not addressing issues related to the Telangana statehood movement during the Jagtial meeting and said that activists who fought for statehood are now facing difficulties.

She claimed that both the BRS and the Congress were more interested in demonstrating their political power by holding large public meetings rather than addressing the problems of the people. “One tells exaggerated stories, and the other tells imaginary tales,” she noted, adding that politics should be centered around the people rather than centered around the party.

Announcing the launch of a new political force on April 25, Kavitha said her initiative aims to address public grievances and bring about real change. She appealed to citizens to provide support and participate in the party formation ceremony.
