Naomi Watts has signed a contract to play ballet legend Margot Fonteyn Margot and RudyNew romantic drama from Mrs. Harris goes to Paris Directed by Anthony Fabian, the film is set in the swinging world of ballet in the 1960s.
The film explores the remarkable partnership between Fontaine, the 42-year-old ballerina and Britain’s most famous dancer, and Rudolf Nureyev, the 23-year-old rebel Soviet defector who became her partner on stage (and, it was rumored, off it as well).
Their explosive, undeniable chemistry on stage sparked speculation, never confirmed and never completely denied, that their affection extended into their private lives. Fontaine was married at the time, and Nureyev was openly gay, known for his volatile, long-term relationship with Danish dancer Erik Brun.
Alexander Trosch, principal dancer with the Hamburg Ballet, will play Nureyev. The Russian-speaking Ukrainian ballet star is known for his productions Giselle and Romeo and Juliet.
“Growing up in Mexico City, watching Margot and Rudy perform at the cinema sparked my passion for stories that blended music, theater and dance,” said Anthony Fabian. “Their love, which defies barriers of culture, age, class and gender, is romantic, unconventional and exciting – a love story like no other.”
A two-time Oscar nominee, Watts studied dance to become an actress. Mulholland Drive, 21 grams and Impossible The star most recently played Jackie Kennedy Onassis on FX’s hit series love story He will next be seen alongside Luke Evans in housewife.
the Margot and Rudy The cast includes Richard E. Grant (Can you forgive me?), Demian Bachir (The Hateful Eight(and Harriet Walter)succession). Fabian will direct from a script by Mrs. Harris goes to Paris Writer Olivia Heitride.
Fabian will produce the film through his Elysian Films group, alongside Hetreed at Sympathetic Ink, Mike Goodridge at Good Chaos, and Chris Quinn. Executive producers are Tom Mount, Jeffrey Berg, and Andy Patterson.
WestEnd Films reached global sales in Margot and Rudy The project will be presented to buyers at the Cannes Film Market next month.
