While unseasonal rains have been forecast in parts of Maharashtra, large swathes of central Maharashtra are still facing sweltering heat, with temperatures rising well above normal levels and offering little immediate relief.

According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Akola and Wardha have emerged among the hottest locations in the state; Each of them records a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius.
The high represents one of the highest readings of the season for these stations. However, IMD officials clarified that the conditions do not yet meet the technical criteria for a “heat wave” as the departure from normal remains within specified thresholds.
In Akola, for example, the temperature was recorded at 3.7 degrees Celsius above normal. However, the heat remained widespread and persistent. Several other districts across Vidarbha and adjoining districts reported a similar rise in temperatures, which, according to weather experts, indicates a broader pattern of soaring heat across the state.

IMD data shows that at least seven meteorological stations in central Maharashtra and 12 stations across Marathwada and Vidarbha recorded maximum temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or above.
Interestingly, the rise in temperatures comes at a time when the IMD has issued a rainfall alert for several districts. While isolated pre-monsoon rains are expected over the coming days, their impact is likely to be short-lived and localized, meteorological officials said.

Prevailing weather conditions continue to favor heat retention, limiting the cooling effect of scattered rainfall. Pre-monsoon patterns often bring a combination of high temperatures and isolated thunderstorm activity.
The authorities urged citizens to be cautious amid the prevailing circumstances.
