“Have you guys listened to any new music during the week, maybe?” Addison Rae asked the packed crowd on the main stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival before donning a purple jacket and launching into her 2025 single, “Headphones On.”
As the Grammy-nominated singer belted out the lyrics, “I compare myself to the new IT girl,” she paused and looked to another part of the stage, revealing singer Olivia Rodrigo. The moment was met with huge cheers from the large audience. The 23-year-old, wearing a pink bra and jeans, joined Ray to continue singing “Headphones On.”
The duo then performed Rodrigo’s new song “Drop Dead,” which was released on Friday. “Oh my God, I might die,” Rae exclaimed as she hugged Rodrigo as she encouraged the audience to show up.
“Drop Dead” serves as the pre-release single for her upcoming album, You look very sad for a girl in love. Ray joined Courage The singer during his first live appearance.
Rodrigo announced her highly anticipated third album earlier this month. She broke the news on social media with the album cover showing Rodrigo rocking upside down in a light pink dress. The singer had teased her next album in 2023, Courage — which earned it a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year — for weeks before it was confirmed that it would finally be released on June 12.
“My third album, ‘You Look So Sad for a Girl in Love,’ will be released on June 12,” the singer said in her social media announcement. “I’m so proud of this record and can’t wait for you to hear it.”
The second weekend of Coachella proved to be packed with surprise guests. Pop star Sabrina Carpenter wowed the crowd at her headlining concert Friday night by featuring Madonna. The duo even performed Madonna’s song “Like a Prayer.” The hit song returned to the zeitgeist late last year after a video was released Hot competition Superstar Connor Story’s dancing to the track has gone viral.
Justin Bieber is set to return as the headline star at Coachella on Saturday night. Karol G will close out the festival with a headline set on Sunday night.
