Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) started its ‘Go Green’ initiative in 2011 to raise awareness about environmental sustainability and a cleaner planet.

As part of this annual tradition, the team replaces its distinctive red kit with a green jersey for one home match each season. Their first match in the green kit was against Kochi Tuskers Kerala on 8 May 2011, which they won by 9 wickets. The most famous match in this group happened against the Gujarat Lions in 2016. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers both scored centuries in the same innings, leading RCB to a 144-run win. In IPL 2021, RCB briefly replaced the green kit with a blue jersey to honor frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Highlighting the journey behind the milestone, RCB CEO Rajesh Menon said: “Achieving carbon neutral status as a T20 franchise is the result of years of dedicated work.

The green shirts reflect this commitment, and we hope that this initiative will inspire our fans and stakeholders to adopt more responsible and sustainable practices. On the field, RCB backed up their strong messages with performances. They have enjoyed an excellent start to IPL 2026, winning four of their first five matches, with their only defeat coming against Rajasthan Royals. The team currently sits second in the points table, and heads into this encounter full of confidence. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals’ performance has been mixed so far. After starting their campaign with two successive victories, they retreated after two successive defeats and now find themselves in fifth place on the table, looking for consistency.
