David Harbor will be back in uniform soon. The ‘Stranger Things’ star has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film ‘John Rambo’. According to the latest reports, Harbor will be joining the cast of the Jalmari Helander directorial in a lead role.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the actor will take on the role of Major Trautman, Rambo’s commanding officer, in the original story that explores the action hero’s early life.
The story will allegedly depict Rambo as a soldier fighting in the jungle, years before he became the reclusive wanderer known to fans.In the original 1980s “Rambo” trilogy, Major Trautman was played by the late Richard Crenna, serving as a mentor figure and one of the few stabilizing influences in Rambo’s life.Starring Noah Centineo as a young John Rambo, the film charts the character’s journey before the events of First Blood, the Sylvester Stallone-directed film that launched the successful box office franchise. Harbor’s casting comes amid a busy period for the actor, who recently wrapped up the Stranger Things series. He recently received praise for his performance as Floyd Smernitch in the limited series “DTF St. Louis.” He also has several high-profile projects in post-production, including the upcoming box office blockbuster “Avengers: Doomsday” which will see him reprise his role as Red Guardian as part of the New Avengers.
According to reports, the film will see his character join a long list of MCU stars as they take on Dr. Victor Von Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. He will also appear in Violent Night 2 and Evil Genius, both expected to be released later this year.Stallone, who originated the role of Rambo, is attached to the film as an executive producer alongside the Russo Brothers, Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier and Bonfire Legend’s Amanda Prysmik.John Rambo is set to expand the mythology of the beloved action series by revisiting the character’s formative years.
