Billie Eilish brought some pop stars to CinemaCon on Thursday, where she and James Cameron were on hand to promote their movie musical. Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D).
During a Paramount screening in Las Vegas for theater owners and distributors, Cameron emphasized that this was “not a streaming concert” and when he saw how Eilish connected with her audience, he saw “an opportunity to do something real and special.”
This included creating “a new generation of 3D camera systems that had never been used before, including Avatar Explaining that the “films” had very long lenses that allowed him to film from the back of the stadiums, Eilish added that she watched them on “the last leg of the tour, for both those who went and those who couldn’t,” as “the fans all deserve a VIP experience.”
They then encouraged the audience to wear their 3D glasses that were provided upon their arrival, and showed some footage from the doc of Eilish performing her songs on stage and in the downtime moments in between. “Her vision, her words, her world,” the letter promised.

Cameron discussed how the unlikely duo teamed up, connecting with her mother, Maggie Baird, about their passion for sustainability issues and environmental initiatives on Eilish’s tour. And of course the Avatar The director couldn’t do anything without some technological innovation, so the production used 3D virtual reality technology, through a partnership with Meta Platforms and Cameron’s Lightstorm Vision. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 8.
Eilish first teased the project over the summer following her sold-out show in Manchester. “So you may have noticed that there are more cameras than usual here,” she told the audience at the time. “Basically, I can’t say much about it, but what I can say is that I’m working on something very, very special with a guy called James Cameron, and it’s going to be 3D. So, take that as you will and these four shows here in Manchester, you and I are part of the thing that I’m making with him. He’s in that audience somewhere, just saying. So don’t mind me, and I’ll probably also be wearing this exact outfit for about four days in a row.”
