Actress-politician Kangana Ranaut has raised controversy over her recent ‘Tapore’ statement targeting opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, as she defended her statement while questioning the norms of Gandhi’s political discourse in Parliament.
In a conversation with ANI, Ranaut made it clear that she has “everyone’s respect” but does not believe in glorifying the LOP’s status.
Kangana Ranaut said: “I respect everyone. But I cannot unnecessarily pretend to put a crown on his head, he does not deserve it. Why should I glorify him? Is this the standard of dissent that we set and the standard of behavior that we talk about? In Mumbai, a tabori is someone who may not have formal etiquette.”
The BJP MP raised concerns over Rahul Gandhi’s behavior in Parliament, stressing the need to maintain respectful decorum.
“Parliament or no parliament, what kind of behavior is this?” The actor argued.
Kangana Ranaut also took issue with Rahul Gandhi’s analogy of ‘jiu jitsu’ used in Parliament, where he used terms like ‘fisting’ and ‘choking’.
Ranaut described it as uncomfortable during the parliamentary speech and said it made many women feel uncomfortable.
“He was moving from one part of his body to another. All the women were uncomfortable. Maybe it wasn’t any double meaning, but it was very uncomfortable. There’s no point in giving kushti lessons there. He was saying, ‘I’m building the foundation of my argument,’ and people were saying, ‘Can you please go ahead?'” She said, “We shouldn’t encourage this.”
Earlier in March, Kangana Ranaut questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his alleged behavior with other parliamentarians, accusing the Lok Sabha leader of the opposition of “harassing” those conducting interviews.
Speaking to ANI, Ranaut said, “We, women, feel very uncomfortable when we see the way he (Rahul Gandhi) behaves. He comes in like a ‘tapori’ and harasses those who are conducting interviews. He should see his sister’s attitude and behaviour, which is very good. Rahul Gandhi himself is a disgrace.”
